Gradall Forklift Parts - Through the period when WWII created a shortage of workers, the famous Gradall excavator was founded in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. Partners in a Cleveland, Fullerton construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when numerous men left the labor force and signed up in the military, depleting existing laborers for the delicate finishing work and grading on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to build a machine which would save their company by making the slope grading task easier, more efficient and less manual.
The very first excavator prototype consisted of a device with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a second-hand truck. There was a telescopic cylinder that was utilized to move the beams backward and forward. This allowed the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to pull or push the dirt. Soon improving the initial design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. Additionally, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machine to be outfitted with either a bucket or a blade attachment.
Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their machinery ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to provide comparable power and high productivity to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems effectively handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity jobs.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their lifting and digging ability. These models were manufactured along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the task at hand. This makes the operator's overall job easier and also conserves fuel at the same time.
When the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial equipment market that are meant to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating and different industrial tasks. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further enhance the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
